After 40 years, recordings from the Monterey International Pop Festival are being released! The festival was also one of the first to pair established stars like Simon & Garfunkel and The Byrds with relative unknowns at the time such as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and The Who.
The lineup on this album is killer….
Check out a couple of these tracks:

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - "Like a Rolling Stone" - WINDOWS AUDIO: http://mfile.akamai.com/2851/wma/razntie.download.akamai.com/2851/monterey/rollingstone.asx

If you like those, take a look at the main media page I found here: http://www.razorandtiemedia.com/artistpage.php?artist=171

Looks like the album hits stores (and Starbucks racks!) on June 5th

Hi!

Thanks for the info, I don't know the other bands recordings how were released previosly, for sure that's excellent if they release it in their enterity.
But Jimi's complete performance was already released in 1986, produced by Alan Douglas, titled "Jimi Plays Monterey", however that is now out-of-print. Wink

I wish they would put this concert out fully on dvd,as the older tape did not have all of purple haze showing unless this was because of a tape problem?.

It wierd they havent put Jimi at Monterey on DVD- It was such a seminal concert. But I guess its all the hassles then over the rights.? You can get it on video from amazon still -I think.

The Otis Redding set from this festival was really excellent as well.

You can get Jimi Plays Monterey on DVD, it's part of the "Complete Monterey Pop Festival" DVD box set that was put out by Criterion a few years back, the Otis Redding set is on the same disc btw.. For some reason I don't think they issued the set in PAL format though, which might explain why it's not readily available in the UK. I was checking out Amazon.co.uk and they were selling NTSC copies. Anyway, you can solve that problem by purchasing a region free DVD player..

They even sell the Jimi Plays Monterey/Shake! Otis at Monterey disc separate from the rest of the box now.

A 4 disc CD set was released in 1992 which featured Jimi's whole set; nice big yellow box with a huge booklet. Not the complete festival by any stretch, but much better than this Razor and Tie crap.

No problem. I'm just suprised that there hasn't been an official CD release of the entire Experience gig at Monterey in the recent past, you know it would sell loads.
