I'm doing a cover of this song, and I don't think distortion is appropriate, but when I'm playing the solos they just sound really weak when i just use reverb and clean tone. How can i get a thicker sound but keep it sounding like the song?

Neck Pick up with Fuzz Face and some delay . You might lower volume on guitar or/and add bass with tone pot. Les Paul will work fine either (lowering volume on guitar too). A strong grip with left hand (consider the bends as wide for some and articulate for those not on high strings).

I come really close to that tone using a BJF Honey Bee. I use the neck pickup on my Strat, keep everything clean and set the HB for a slight overdrive. It sounds awesome.
