Jimmy loves mids. Crank the mids on whatever amp or pedal you might be using to get closer to his sound. EQ can be tricky and is very room-dependent.

Nice work gsbe. What's interesting is that JH uses motifs a minor third apart, while JC's classic 'changes' are a major third apart.

I'd suggest getting a copy of Scott Henderson's "Jazz Rock Improvisation" on DVD; he breaks a lot of tricks down by chord type. Also Steve Khan's book " ... |

It's not 4ths, but definitely minor 3rds... 4ths wouldn't get you back to the starting key. |
