Jimmys tone is very distinct on the studio album track Dark Star (Blue light rain). Anyone know any of the background on what makes this track so unique? Was a different guitar or amp setup used? It sounds cleaner, but without losing sustain... absolutely perfect... Very Happy

Jimmy loves that Tube Factor by Hughes and Kettner. He may be using that.

jimmys tone is just plane distinct....i remember about 5-6-or-7 years ago down in alabama i went to see the Allman Brothers play at this festival and we were a little late and as we were about 200 yards away i heard that tone and got so pumped cause i knew who that was....they had just let Dickey Betts go for personal issues and i had no idea they let him go and i had no idea jimmy was playing with them but i new within 2 seconds....it was a double treat for me that night. ..woohoo!

The story I heard was:

The Allman Brothers asked Jimmy to join the band.

Jimmy's delicate rejection, which is SO Jimmy if you know him, was (in effect):

I'm a fan of the Allman Brothers. I go to see the Allman Brothers. It wouldn't feel right to join them.

I know Jimmys tone is distinctive, you know its him playing after just a few notes. But theres something about that track, almost sounds different. Maybe its the Marshall that he said he was using...
