I know there was an album in the works at the time of Ricky's death...not too much more than that. _________________

Spent a few hours with Jimmy last week and we talked a little about the new Project Z album. Jimmy seems real excited about getting this out and is working with producers to get it finished. He feels really good about his playing on it but warns that some of it is really "out there". I think he is also driven to get it released to honor his dear friend Ricky Keller. He's got many hours of music to sift through to decide what to include on the release. A great deal of the music was improvised on the spot. I love to hear Jimmy play in this unlimited context. Can't wait for the release. |

Jimmy, being the humble gentleman that he is would never say anything negative about anyone, but I kind of got the impression that he felt limited by the 3 guitar line-up that The Dead toured with this summer. Its really hard for someone with Jimmy's skills to thrive in such an environment. I feel incredibly blessed to have seen a majority of the early ARU shows in the early nineties in which all of the members of the ARU were allowed to play all they wanted, and while soloing, each member was supported by another master of their respective instrument. The interplay between Jimmy, Oteil, Apt Q258 and Matt Mundy was beyond anything I've ever witnessed, and I've seen A LOT! The vibe at these shows was incredible, and I've heard all these guys say that they've never again experienced a musical environment that was so liberating and challenging. Last week Jimmy said he had some serious woodshedding to do for the upcoming ARU shows just to keep up! What a humble guy! |

Ethereal...thanks so much for being os open about this stuff regarding Jimmy (as much as you can anyway)! We all appreciate it a lot.
