Went to see JA and the band at Firefly's in Marlboro MA this past Sat nite. I went with my brother and we brought a friend who had never seen JA and the band live before. Opening for JA was our very own board moderator Billy Claire. He did an absolutely awesome set, warmed up the crowd for JA. He played some great tunes like Ruby Tuesday, Wonderwall by Oasis, When the Stars Go Blue by the Coors, Here Comes The Sun and many more. Some pretty amazing guitar work by Billy...way to go!
Then came time for JA, Chris and Jesse. I can honestly say that it seems as though every time I go to see a show it gets better and better each and every time, no word of a lie! The band was so tight, right on with everything. They covered tunes from both cd's and of course some of my favorites Get Inside, Two Wheel Horse, Wichita Lineman, and little bits of some Hendrix, Led Zep (Whole Lotta Love), Deep Purple (Smoke On the Water), Beatles (I Feel Fine) AND I heard a tune that I had never heard him play before (maybe a new song?) I think many of JA's family was there that nite. I know his parents were both there, and at one point during the show he made the announcement that his Dad had just celebrated his b-day recently so they brought out a cake with a candle and everyone sang a round of Happy Birthday! JA's family really are supportive...how great is that!
And of course he got a standing ovation at the end of his set!
Our friend that came to see JA's show was aboulutely stunned! He commented to me that he could not believe the show that he just saw (both Billy and JA and the band) for the money that he paid! The next day he called up my brother and was still in awe...he just simply could not get over it! What a night! Great job by everyone!! _________________ It is what it is

Sounds like a great night on Saturday. I picked the wrong night...no cake.
Friday night's Firefly's show was more subdued. The band played well. The crowd was mostly right there. However, it's still a bar with a few people just "out on a Friday night."
I'm always impressed with Johnny's use of dynamics where he seems to pick a low volume tune to get the audience to pay attention.
Billy's set on Friday was a good opening. Gotta love "when the levee breaks." Somehow that song seems more topical these days.
Friends from my office attended and were very impressed.
BTW, John says they're working on mixing the live album. He did a Q&A at Rick's Music World on Sunday where the first question was "when's the new album coming out." JA's response was that it wasn't easy, as the band is working and traveling. He said it'll be released in the spring of '07. And, he'll try to put Memphis, TN and the closing Hendrix medley on the CD.
