I would say V30's in a closed back 4x12.
G12-65's in an oval open back 2x12.
And he likes the Tone Spotters in the Fender Deville.

Hi, new on this forum.

As you can assume I'm a guitar player and a big fan of Mike's Music and Tone.

Scott Henderson, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Robben Ford, SRV and many Jazz musicians are in my good musicians list ...

I also have some good knowledge in Tube valve amps and other electronic stuff ...

Nice to be here !
Just found a couple of cool live recordings of Mike playing with Vonda Shepard at the Baked Potato in 1992. The sound quality isn't great, but these are the only recordings I've ever found of Mike playing live with Vonda. One is a cover of "The Wind Cries Mary." The same guy has some other cool Landau recordings on his YouTube channel (Red Blues at the Spud from '92, etc.). Enjoy!

Cool idea, man, although the questions/curiousity are half the fun. But Landau freaks are the best, so here goes! I'll try and add a bit of the info I have. I'll add more if I think of it.

Jacob Strat wrote:

James Taylor tour 2009:
Suhr HSS strat
Suhr Tele with Suhr S-90 neck Pickup
Gretch Hollowbody
OCD (or SD-9 + COT50)
Geoffrey Teese RMC5 Wizard Wah
Boss FV500H
Roger Mayer Voodoo-Vibe
Line 6 DL-4
Fender Pro Reverb

Mike used the Fulltone OCD in 2008, but not in 2009. On the summer 2008 tour, he also used his '69 Strat, and the Suhr Badger 18 into a blonde Fender Bassman 2x12 cab. He used his Shell Pink Suhr Antique Classic for the QVC TV gig in 2008. I saw Mike live with James Taylor twice during the summer of 2009. For those gigs he used the following:

Fender '63 Fiesta Red Strat
Suhr Sunburst Classic HSS
Suhr Sunburst Classic T w/ S-90 neck pickup
Gibson Historic Reissue Cherry Red SG/Les Paul (used for slide)
Rick Turner nylon string acoustic-electric? (not a Renaissance model)
Maxon SD-9
Lovepedal COT 50
[rest of effects as listed above]
Boss TU-12H
Fender '64 Pro Reverb (Celestion Heritage G12-65s or Eminence Tonespotters)
Matchless 30-watt head (backup; either Phil Jamison custom or stock HC-30)

Also, I dug through my archives and pulled out these bits of gear info:

James Taylor - "Squibnocket" video, 1992

James Taylor - "Live" album, 1993

Thought we could have a list of Landau gear from different albums, tours etc.

I'll start:

A ton of Sessions in the 80's:
Various Tyler Strats
Anyone know what amps both Dustin and Landau were using for this gig? I'm thinking Landau is using the Od100, but I'm not for sure.

You never hear talk about this at all. This is some of my favorite music featuring Landau. I have tried to find the show, but can't seem to find anyone that has it. I love the song writing and the overall feel of the music. The stuff that Landau adds just sits so well within the structure of the tunes.

I find the sd9 really dark sounding and we all know that the tone knob is not usable above 9 o'clock. The overall headroom I can get with it is pretty small if compared to the cot which has a lot more "hair" so to my ears the solo does not come out as well as with the cot...

But this could be referred to my setup. I have dark sounding pickups (kinman woodstock plus) and prefer bass centered tones for my guitar...
