Hey guys,

I was reading through Michael's huge discography and was wondering what albums you'd recommend that are full of his playing?

My favorite is "Dove C'è Musica" by Eros Ramazzotti (DDD/BMG 1996). It has a killer backing band featuring Mike on guitar, Vinnie Colaiuta on drums and Nathan East on bass.

The Joni Mitchell albums from the early '80s ("Wild Things Run Fast", "Dog Eat Dog") also feature plenty of Mike's chops. Check out Joni's "Refuge Of The Road" DVD - it features both Mike and Vinnie in a live setting around 1984.

Thanks for the info! I have heard Wild Things Run Fast and I can't get into it at all. I will check out those other Joni Mitchell albums and the Eros one for sure.

1) All of the Joni Mitchell records Mike played on.

2) "Street Talk" by Steve Perry

Cool

Joni`s Wild Things Run Fast by far. I like the rest, too.

Other than that I`m really mostly into his own projects.

Lost of cool gigs though. His LP solo on the Gadd tribute DVD has a tone to die for. The band`s really great on that one as well. Nice push-pull sort of groove.

Oh yeah, his solo stuff is the best, but how he can adapt to any situation and play what is needed is just incredible. I really don't like that Joni Mitchell album though. Sad

Another great session is "Repeat Offender" (1989) by Richard Marx. Mike is the main guitarist on all tracks but one (Lukather plays all guitars on the opening track).

I don't think this style of music has aged very well, but the production (by David Cole and Marx) is impeccable, and still a joy to the ears almost 20 years on. Mike's tone is as wet as it gets - reminiscent of the tones on "Tales From The Bulge", which dates from the same era.

Mike also plays on two other Richard Marx albums - his 1987 self-titled debut and "Rush Street" (1991).

I may be wrong, but I believe the lead guitar on the track with same titled album "Across From Midnight" by Joe Cocker, is Mike's. If it is in fact him, I think this is the best solo I've ever heard.

Great thread though.. I'd love to hear some more suggestions.

James Taylor - best live CD is great too! Also not really a "sessionwork" thing Wink
