Hi Guys

I have a number of early bootleg recordings of stevie doing a couple of
BB king numbers "lost a good thing now" and woke up this morning"
a friend of mine swears that he is using a gibson on these tracks.
i know that he did have one as you can see it in the guitar rack at el mocambo ann there is a pick on Tommy shannons site showing him playing one.
anyone know any more ?

Never seen him playing a tele, Bluz; have you a pic?

I think its probably the same 335 as on the S 2 S cover.

Ive seen him with a Gibson LP too, and a couple with a V, and an Epiphone 335.

I think he owned about 35 guitars by the time he died.

I've read that SRV had an Epiphone Casino (?) ... is that right?

Pretty much a 335.

I have a DVD where he plays a Tele, not to different from the strat tone to be honest.

Also have a pic where he plays a Les Paul. I'm sure that lots have seen this though, its all over the net.

I read recently that he used a Tokai Goldstar Strat on Texas Flood,or certainly that he was using one around that time.
I quote:

'Most early replica guitars made by several manufacturers during the mid-to-late 1970s are correctly or incorrectly referred to as "lawsuit" guitars. One story is repeated with some regularity and alleged to have happened to a shipment of replica guitars in the mid-1970s. American Customs officials stopped a particular shipment of replica instruments and literally cut-off the headstocks of the guitars because they violated the original manufacturers trademark.

Several well known guitarists have played these Tokai replica Strats, the most famous being the late Stevie Ray Vaughan. Stevie appears on the cover of Tokai's 1985-1986 Edition of their Electric Guitars catalog. Also, an interesting piece of trivia concerns Stevie's Texas Flood (Epic 1983) album cover photo. It was taken while Stevie was playing a Tokai replica Strat. On the cover, the Tokai logo was removed, however, many music shops sell a poster of that album cover and "Tokai Springy Sound" is clearly visible on the headstock'.

I hear the early 80s to '85 tokai's are better than the Fender strats of that period.Thats why Fender freaked and try to sue.
