The sound was alright, rythm/lead, pretty sweet. Till I raised my action really high.
Its like 4 on high E and 3 on low E. the height measurement taken that is, the sound became pretty bad. The lead became really muddy and all, and the rythm(strumming stuffs) became quite "not smooth". I tried adjusting the pickup heights but I couldn't came to a sound I really like.
Is this like possible? When you raise your action your sound totally changes? And also, what pickups do you guys recommend?
I play blues/rock stuffs. Do strumming a lot as well. Just want a versatile/equally-spread-out pickup. Please do give some suggestions if possible. Thank you guys in advance.

go back to 11's. You'll still get a thick sound, it wont be muddy and you wont kill your fingers. Using 13's just to ATEMPT to get remotely close to a sound like Stevie's is pointless. |

This is true; there a lot of players who went to 12's or 13's and have gone back to 11's; Aynsley Lister, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and others; I only use a 12 on top E; the rest are 11's.
You may have to alter your nut aswell, and your floating bridge will not be happy. |

Actually to be honest I'm quite comfortable with 13s. Not that I wanna get close to SRV, but I like the tension that the strings are giving me when I bend. Can "feel" ya know.
Unlike .9s-.11s, really thin for me.
Sorry I don't get the part about the floating bridge won't be happy. Why? |

You'll be pulling a lot more tension with your strings.
Your top E gauge definately does make a difference to your tone! |

Chris Duarte uses 11's too and he has a great texas blues style tone |
