Hello all you SRV guitar players,
I want to get a guitar that can come close to the SRV #1 strat tone, and wanted to get some input from those of you who have already gone through this, hopefully I can get some good advice and save some trouble.
I originally was just going to buy a Fender SRV model strat, but after doing my homework on sites like SRVguitar.com and reading some reviews, I have been advised this guitar is not really a very close replica, mostly because it has a polyurethane finish and the texas special pick-ups, neither of which was on the #1. I have been advised to get a '60's reissue strat with nitrocellulose finish and vintage pick-ups as the first choice (goes for about $2,500 new, which is out of my price range), second choice is to buy an american strat, strip off the finish, re-finsih with nitro, and then replace pick-ups with the vintage PU's.
Anyone have any advice for me, any other options,? obviously I would like to spend the least time and money, thanks for your help! |

I agree, the AV 62 can be had for $1250 new. It will give you that great Strat blues tone. Plug it into a 65 twin and TS9 and you will be getting a great Stevie style tone.
The American Vintage 62 is the perfect Strat IMHO. I own a couple of them now from over the years and it's the only Strat I'll gig with. It has the perfect Strat tone and finish, it wears really well. Brand new it sounds like a true 6o's Strat, which I also own. Fender really got it right with this guitar.
