Does anyone know if Stevie Ray was influenced at all by the ABB or, Duane Allman in particular? Never read or heard anything about this but, I'll bet that Stevie was pretty enamoured with their music. Think about it - Allman's were essentially a blues band, albeit Southern style vs. Texas style. Eat A Peach was released in 1972, when Stevie was 18 years old & Beginnings in 1973. Can you imagine SRV's interest in the guitar licks on Blue Sky & In Memory of Elizabeth Reed or Whipping Post? Yes, Stevie's music was totally different from the great southern blues of the Allman Brothers Band, but with so much guitar talent, you might think that Stevie would have taken notice. |

I've read in one of SRV's bios that he use to play covers of ABB songs in bars before he made it. I've never heard any, but that would be pretty cool. This was when him and Eric Johnson use to jam in Austin, Eric was dating one of Lenny's friends at the time.
I've read all this somewhere, can't remember which book it was though. |
