Hi Scott,

I just saw Travis Carlton on bass in the last Scary Pockets’s Hendrix cover:

https://youtu.be/01tCZdONkRA

That made me think that it would be really amazing to see you
playing some funky/soul guitar in this project.

Do you think that it might be possible?

That would let me watch new tune from you on youtube with a great sound,
meanwhile to see you in France…

Niko

That’s awesome. I’ve never heard that band.
I’d like to hear Scott with that band too.

Scott—maybe play Kool and the Gang and Funkadelic—like your old cover band in Florida:)

It's a good band and I really like the singer, but in my opinion that's not funk. It's R&B/ pop. If you wanna hear real funk, check out "In Time" or just about anything by Sly Stone, or James Brown, or Tower of Power - that's funk. Music with the snare on 2 and 4 takes it out of the realm of funk, but that's just my opinion.

Yes, you guessed it ! I thought about some Tower of Power’s stuff…
or maybe some Herbie Hancock’s Head Hunters too Very Happy

By the way, I don’t care if they play real funk or whatever,
Their songs are often great and to my ears, the sound is really good.

That’s why I thought about you in this band as I know you care lot about the quality of the sound on YT,
and it seems to me that they try to make their best with the guests.
(a lot of singers, but also great players as John Scofield, Cory Henry,….)
Moreover, sorry for that, sometimes it would be really great to see you in video,
out from your records, as I can’t currently see you live in the real life…

Nick

Thanks Nick, I apologize for the lack of video on YouTube. The iPhone is my worst enemy, since it's incapable of recording bass guitar or kick drum in a video, and it makes guitar sound like it's coming through a megaphone.

A club on our upcoming tour offered to record us with decent gear - for 1000 Euros. So fuck that. I'm buying one of those Shure mics for iPhone which could hopefully capture some decent clips for YouTube and Instagram.

No disrespect intended to Scary Pocket - it's a good band, but I have a real problem when people say music is funky when it isn't. That doesn't mean the feel isn't great, it just means that there needs to be a certain level of syncopation for me to consider it funk.

I was just listening to Blow by Blow.
The first tune is funky like you’re talking about.
What a great album—I read that Jeff Beck was really into James Brown, which makes sense.
