Hey Scott

Have you ever tried this pedal?
A student of mine brought one from the 70s over the other day. Man—it sounded great—really crunchy clear top end. I always thought they were supposed to suck.

That was my first distortion pedal - it came with a rubber cover for the volume knob, and I used it as a master volume. It's the reason I came up with the idea for the SVC volume control pedal.

As far as the tone, I don't remember exactly how it sounded, but it was the best sounding distortion pedal of those days in my opinion. I think it's probably a little fizzy sounding compared to the pedals I'm using now like the Klon and SD-9.

I read a little about the pedal.
Apparently the MXR and the DOD 250 and the Klon share a similar circuit.
The Klon is just distantly related but the DOD and MXR are almost the same.
Everyone seems to like the DOD more then the MXR because the MXR doesn’t have enough output volume.
I went on eBay and vintage DODs are going for 400.00!
I remember you said that the Yngwie DOD is like the vintage one right?

I have an old DOD 250 and it sounds great but it doesn't have a tone knob - it's a bright pedal. I don't know if the Yngwie version is an exact copy of the old one or not - I've never tried one to compare.

Thanks Mesolimbic
Those mods look awesome. Especially the one where you get DOD 250 and mxr distortion + in one pedal.

I bought an EarthQuaker devices Grey Channel. Sounds awesome. 2 channels of DOD 250 clone with different clipping options. I can still return for 30 days but on first listen it sounds great. One of the toggles makes it an mxr distortion +. Pretty scooped for a fender but with the Jan ray on it sounds good.
