First of all, sorry if this doesn't belong here.
I have been learning the tune and would like to have some feedback on the video I made. I know the mix isn't very good, I'm always leaving the guitar too loud... sorry for that!
I also know I'm not playing it 100% correct, it's a difficult one!
All in all, I had a great time learning, and I hope you enjoy it.

Great job Alberto! I'm really happy when I see people making use of the play-along version. The response has been very positive so I'll offer the next album in that format too. You nailed the lines, played a good solo, and nice tone also!
I've learned a few really difficult pieces as a sideman - one was a whole Cannonball solo with Jeff Berlin and a whole Monk solo with Joe Zawinul. Extremely hard work but also rewarding and fun. I'm glad you had a good time learning it and thanks for sharing. |

Nice one Alberto!!
Scott, glad to hear you're doing it for the next album. I'm sold already.
I have three Vibe Stations in the car. The normal one, the drums and bass mix for the memory test and just the guitars for discovering layers.
The play along version is great for numerous reasons.
One of them being that we can hear the incredible work you've done on the guitar tracks alone. It takes about a year for each track to even think you have discovered most things, so it makes it easier.
Also great when learning the tunes to have the actual players and not some silly midi backing track with robotic grooves and flat bass lines. I still can't decide which midi instrument is the funniest. The bass is probably on top of the list. Brass sections too. They sound like Van Halen's Jump and that's if you're lucky.
That's great news. Thanks for that. Now there are two things to look forward to!
If anyone's interested for the Voicings on Vibe Station, click on the link. I think I might have got some of them right. Not nearly as good as Alberto's but there it is. Don't forget, buy the sheet music and enjoy learning those tunes.

Thanks guys!!!
Scott, yes, it's a very good idea to release the separate tracks, I think the kind of audience you have really appreciate it. It's high value educational material.
Talking about solos, one whole jazz solo I started to learn, but turned out bloody difficult is "The way you look tonight" by Wes Montgomery https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oCUm6Gr2X44
Man, that one is hard. He plays really fast. I can't imagine how he could do that with the thumb.
Thanasis, nice playing! I like that tune a lot, and I think that's the next one I am learning.
Stephane, I really recommend buying the play along version of the whole Album. I think it has a very good price for the amount of musical wisdom it contains, and can give you endless hours of fun.
Thanks again for listening and writing. Cheers!! |

Badass solo from Wes. Holding a ciggy in his mouth? Even more badass haha.
Yeah Vibe Station is a great tune. My favorite of the album and Festival of ghosts too.
This month I have transcribed some piano lines from Oleo, an incredible chromatic line from Nir Felder, a bit of Seamus Blake tea for two solo, half of the first chorus from giant steps (tendonitis material) and played over the made in Japan from Deep Purple which I remembered all the solos but never played them on the guitar. Especially Lazy is pretty badass. With the big bad wolf quote!!
Tried to put bass notes for the sus chords in Havona with no luck at all, if anyone has any tips for that, pm me, I'll pay you haha.
Holdsworth's spokes is next but I'll give myself time to choose a few lines and learn them properly.
The Seamus Blake solo (him, not transcription):

Also, an overdub hack for festival of ghosts if you're interested.

Now it's time for me to shut up and practice. Sorry for the essays and sticking my nose everywhere guys, I'm just happy talking about the stuff. My friends don't get most of that so I kinda like storm my enthusiasm.
See you around!! |
