I'm reading the book you recommended (Compassion and Self Hate) over at Amazon, instead. Smile

just by checking out the sample pages and doing a search on hypervulnerability and guilt or somethin g over at Amazon. Unlike most self help books, it does seem to be geared more towards typically-male problems, such as comfort with being helpless, fear of failure, etc. I like how it addresses issues which may come about as a result of living in a narcissistic culture -- American culture, that is. I've never been to Italy, but perhaps the people there are as obsessed with success and performance as Americans presently are -- I'm guessing, though, that there's more of an emphasis on family relationships, art and quality leisure time there, however. I can't say for sure. Well, let's just say, if you've got very high expectations for yourself and a lot of self-hatred and feelings of shame and guilt, you'll probably get a lot out of the book. (I SUCK! Smile
