When you practice playing over a set of changes do you ever set a metronome or drum machine and play without the chords underneath or do you pretty much always have a loop of the harmony going?

I know from a prior answer to a question that when you are warming up or playing for gear demos you play over changes without the harmony going---I am asking more about when you practice.

Thanks Scott
