Hi Scott,

I would like to know your point of view on Barry Harris opinion of Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Wayne Shorter music not being jazz and also in respect to the teaching jazz methods in general.

He come across very bold and opinionated, but I guess he knows what he is talking about.

Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjnX_PkDwWs

Notice you have no Boston in your tour dates keeping my fingers cross.

Thank you for the opportunity to have a open channel with you.

I didn't have the patience to watch it because in the first ten minutes he said so much ridiculous bullshit, I had to turn it off.

I was afraid of being too harsh so I watched a little more - the guy is a fucking idiot. Why anyone would hire him to teach music is beyond me.

I wasn't familiar with Barry Harris's playing, but now that I hear him - wow, what a brilliant be-bop improvisor. Too bad he's such a terrible teacher, and close-minded purist.

If people like this ran politics, we'd still have slavery and women wouldn't be allowed to vote. He just can't deal with innovation or change of any kind, and that's a very bad position to be in if you're trying to influence young minds.

He is a top notch player no question about it but his views sometimes are out of wack. If you watch some of his earlier teaching videos they are very very good, like this one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLCfw9tqGmA

Good lesson - nice to see that he's able to teach without putting down great musicians like Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock.
