I think it would be ridiculous to save that -relatively- little money once you know MixIR is superior over the free players. I've been looking online to find out about the different players soundquality, but apart from people raving over the software they have installed i didn't find a report that compares players soundwise. Besides that it seemed 'common opinion' that Nadir sounds great. Can't wait to install MixIR tomorrow.

So thx again Scott! Smile

Since saturday i've been fiddling around with mixIR2 and the Celestion green and blue libraries. MixIR makes the difference as do the Celestion IRs. I'm ready to sell the iso box.

So if you people want to save money: go Suhr Reactive Load, mixIR2, Celestion IR's.

I'm going to go down the Suhr Reactive Load route very soon but had a question regarding the IR's. I've been using a software modeller which has a convolver module https://www.scuffhamamps.com/product/proconvolver so I'm assuming I could just use this? The manual says it internally limits to 20,000 samples, so thats about 200ms at 96kHz.

Am I right in thinking that in theory you could use any convolver though? Even reverb ones like Waves IR-L or ReaVerb (which comes with the Reaper DAW)

Thank you Scott!

I used to think any convolution player would work, until I started trying them. I haven't heard the one you mentioned, but I tried a Waves reverb, and ProVerb which is a Digital Performer plug-in. Both made my IR sound terrible. I tried NadIR and Mellowmuse - I thought Wall Of Sound III sounded the best until I tried mixIR - no comparison, it's not even a contest. MixIR has the clearest, most realistic sound, and the best low end. Probably because it can play the whole 500 ms sample instead of cutting it off. It costs 50 bucks but it's worth every penny.

[quote="Scott Henderson"]I don't know that app so I wouldn't be the right guy to ask. I'm going to burn a bridge here and advise you that the IR player plug-in makes a big difference in the sound of the IR. Pete Thorn told me about mixIR 2, made by Redwirez. It costs 50 bucks, but it's way worth it.

mixIR 2 is great, you can add multiple IR's to one instance and and blend them to taste. I use it with the Celestion IR's and it sounds fantastic.
