Lifeson has always been more interested in creating nice tunes and textures , playng very good both rhytm and lead guitar, opposed to many "virtuosos" of his generation.
All three Rush members are very good rock players without any primadonna attitude. They also took chances and tried a few different things, and still put out new music, oinstead of just relyng on nostalgia.
Live, even if now it is stressful for them, they still play 3 hours sets giving their fans value for money.Something that can't be said about some of their countemporaries.....

And, who can think bad of a supposedely "thinking man 's rock band"(as the press used to call them) who wrote a song with the title "Anagram for Mongo"( clue for the movie buffs Wink )? Laughing

Blazing Saddles!!!!! It also doesn't hurt that actual musicians in different genres are fans. They also built their audience the old fashioned way: with lots and lots of touring.
