Hi Scott,
I've been listening to your playing for about 6 months now and some of it's starting to show in my playing, except this one thing that I'm still in awe over.
This run(3:23) boggles my mind in this video, and I was wondering what your thought process is for such runs?

Also what's your opinion on bound neck strat style guitars?

That's just a mixolydian scale, which is what most improvisors use over Dom7 chords. The line has some chromatic passing tones in it, which is pretty common too. I'm sure if you transcribe and learn it, you'll see it's not hard to play at all. Nothing I do is very difficult to play, because I hardly pick at all - it's mostly hammer-ons and pull-offs.

Those bound neck strats look cool but I've never played one - I imagine it would feel closer to a Gibson.

I managed to get this from the video

I guess I just need to practice more, this made way more sense when it was transcribed.
I noticed a lot of b5 in there that didn't "resolve" but still sounded nice, which I shall surely steal. Wink

Good job Kurtis, it's all yours - I've played it too many times! Very Happy

That’s a beautiful line.
Kurtis—-if you haven’t already checked it out you should download Scott’s “outside the blues” masterclass because he discusses this “Lydian Dominant” sound and gives other examples.

It really is a beautiful line. It kind of makes me feel the same way as the guitar solo lines towards the end of Manic Carpet when I hear it, although it is not the same chord progression.

Just bought the Outside the Blues videos and all I have to say is that now I know that I NEEDED THEM. GO BUY PEOPLE, there is even some tapping in there (Just kidding, but there is haha).

I wonder if my Jazz workshop teacher is going to stop yelling at me next time we play Billie's bounce....

Anyway, here is the link, check it out and spread the word! Thanks Dizzy.

So I noticed that I did not notate this tab correctly...

There was an extra note, a wrong note, and an incorrectly notated one, but it's fixed now. Smile
