Hi!
Don't know if this has been asked before, but do you much prefer the rat to DS-1 and similar things or don't like it at all?
And how about the marshall tall vintage with greenbacks, it's been described more huge sounding due to it's extra height. Have you ever played through one on tours? How did it fare?
I'm not a fan of the Rat or DS-1. The Rat is very grainy sounding so you have to mic the speaker way into the paper to get a smooth tone, but being that far from the cone gives you a much smaller sound. The DS-1 is very scooped compared to the high gain pedals I use like the Klon or SD-9, so to me the DS-1 sounds thin.
Yes, I've played one of those tall Marshall cabs with Greenbacks and it sounded amazing. I've never had one at home to compare it to a regular 4x12 - that would be fun!
Thanks million times for answering. Bought that extra tall cab. Nice to know you liked it. Haven't been really able to test it at my present apartment.
I find the rat quite configurable. The filter knob has a good range. At least for somekind of a metal sound it works great into a marshall.
Jeff Beck used a Rat for a long time - it's a cool pedal, I didn't mean to discourage you from using it. For my style of playing the Klon or SD-9 work better because they're a bit fatter with a less grainy top end.
