Hey guys name names Chris, I just turned 16 and I've been playing guitar for around 2-3 years now. I'm a blues player, idolizing players like Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, and John Mayer (hey I'm young Laughing ). I'd love to start playing like Jazz and players like Robben Ford but have no idea where to start. Thing is...I can't read notes and have barely any theory knowledge. Any ideas where to start?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for posting.

Obviously there is no substitute for listening and transcribing. It will definately jumpstart the process to find yourself a teacher to get the ball rolling. You can also get on eof the several Robben instructionals. THey are pretty clear about showing his blues approach.

Working on ear training is really important too. Then you will have a much easier time pulling licks off of tunes.

Good luck!

I'd like a starting point also for self study. DVDs and books work for me.

Any more notes like the Triads would be great. I had some theory and have a few chops and the equipment.
