Would I use it in the amp's normal channel? Or the reverb channel with the reverb off? Or the reverb channel with the reverb on, adjusted to taste complement the LXP-1?

I know there's no right or wrong answer when it comes to this stuff -- just wondering what the folks who have experience with the LXP-1 do.

Thanks,

Guitar--Lxp--Amp. Either channel, you might have a preference.
Either way, that's series, and your dry signal is going through the effect and you're mixing the dry and effected signal in the effect itself.

Or. .

Guitar to input 1 of either channel, then input 2 of that same channel to the input of the LXP, and then the 100% wet output of the LXP to the remaining channel input.
Either way, that's parallel, and your dry signal never goes through the effect. It goes straight to the amp, and the effect to dry blend is mixed in the amp itself.

Any time you start hooking shit together there's going to be tradeoffs and some issues, and both these schemes have strong points and problems, but try 'em both out in both channels, and you'll probably have a favorite.

Have fun!!

Agreed. Great show, can't wait to digest the whole thing.

One of the leaders (well, THE artistic leader, I guess) of our jam society teaches that the role of the guys NOT soloing is to make the soloist look great. I thought SK was the embodiment of that in BRRB. It made me proud of S as a fan and prouder when he stood up delivering solid rhythm.
Wish they'd have traded fours, tho'

Performance and Improvisation :: RE: Harmonic Experience

One thing that has always interested me, and that drew me to what I had read from Steve Kimock, is the interactional aspects of Music and Music Making.

SK has often mentioned in Posts, his thoughts on the Interaction of the Audience/Listeners with the Music.

Also, I have always been fascinated with Melody. But, also with Context. And Music has a shifting landscape of Context, along with the movements of the Melodies. So, these 2 aspects are exciting. But, the third aspect I'm talking about here is observed within the Interaction of the Melody and the Context.

Then, there's the numerous other aspects of Perception, Attitudes, etc. And things get pretty involved, rather quickly! LOL

Looking at and experiencing the Interactions of 2 different Rhythms, as in Chapter 3, FIGURE 3.1 Mathieu talks of another Interaction. And this seems to dovetail nicely with what I've always perceived and explored.

I thought it was interesting to read Mr. Mathieu ask (Harmonic Experience, Page 25) "Why is scalar space additive, and harmonic space multiplicative?"

I wonder if it's because of this 3rd. Interaction? With the addition of Harmony to Melody, you get an Interaction of these 2. The Interaction itself, would seem to be the "Multiplicative Aspect".

What say you?

Mike, thanks for the venue list. We may be delaying our eastward run a bit in order to hit Colorado again first. We want to maximize our impact there, as we'll be moving out there soon.

We had an absolute blast in Nederland - even though we were double booked for our first gig! Still, it was a total party.

Alan, I'm really glad you came out to the gig that night. I'm surprised the sound quality was alright, that stage is set up in a weird way, and there were no monitors, so we were running blind for the vocals. If you only hear an influence, and not full-out copying, then I'm happy! I've been starting to realize that its cool if I can cop someone, but I need to develop my own identity as a player. It was nice to talk with you as well, we'll let you know when we're back through the area.

You're either right side up with any interval or upside down.
That's the whole thing right there.
You're never really out of the 12 tone thing when you're using it, all those pitches are designed to work together obviously.
There's no "C G E plate of shrimp" chord.

Me: [quote]Is this what you mean?

What I'm trying to do here, is use a motif to set up a push/pull between Overtonal and Reciprocal Notes. Looks like it could just keep spiraling out until it uses all 12 Tones.

Code:

-|-----------------|-----------------|-|--------------------------------------

You used all those suggested tones and with the exception of the Ab tone
I simply hear major pent and minor pent. (actually, only the F tone represents the minor pent exclusively, y/n?)

The major/minor blues pent thing is very subtle "out".

Me:

Quote:

What I was trying to do, was to use a type of sequence to set up the over/under effect.

C to E
C to Ab

Then, I pivoted off of the D.

to F
to G

Then, to wrap it up it goes back.

G to C

I could continue something like this, by pivoting off of the E, then the F, etc.

I suppose the Pents were just my subconscious leading me. The F Note was the Reciprocal mirror of the G.

So, E Overtonal mirrored by Ab Reciprocal. F Reciprocal mirrored by G Overtonal.

That's my take on the Line, after the fact. I was just playing and listening, and thought the sequencing idea would be a good way to try and incorporate the Notes mentioned. So, it worked (for me, anyway).

Anyway, I think this is what Mr. Kimock was/has been saying. I've (obviously) still got a long way to go. But, I hope I'm on the right track with this.

So, listening to SK in the past, I've often thought he may be using some rhythmic and/or melodic Motifs to set up the listener for more outside playing. So, I tried this approach.

Also, the idea of using the notes SK mentions seemed to set up a mirror-like approach. Up a M3rd. and Down a M3rd., etc.

I see this as a type of pendulum or rubber band type of effect, in the above line. The farther you pull the pendulum up one direction, the further it will swing in the other. Or, the farther you stretch the rubber band, the more easily it will snap back to it's stable state.

So, what say you, Lurkers?

One night late term when my son was in mom's utero he was really thrashing around in there when I put my jumbo dreadnought 12-string into contact with mom's belly and strummed an also sprach zarathustra E chord. Suddenly it was very quiet in there.

At 18 he plays a little guitar once in a while, liked guitar hero a lot, and acts fairly normal, I guess. He likes to listen to music a lot, which I suppose is the important thing. Have fun with the shorties and may you stay forever young thank you Bob.

Since my music gene seemed to have kicked into high gear there have been many *facilitations,* music thaqt makes me want to learn, practise and jam, and the people I have tried to interact with to make it happen. The phrase: A Legend In His Own Mind partly describes the beast I am trying to throttle here. This wb want to play that funky music and is feverishly studying Grant Green et al and expects the local jamming community of full time struggling day jobbers to REALLY DIG and be able to play Ramsey Lewis, Donald Byrd and other stuff that I dig. But the redneck bar that hosts us hated it. The owner complained, and all these guys ever wanted to play was Tequila Sunrise, which they have a hard enough time with anyway. Forcing one's ego onto another's gig can never work.

After my epiphany I apologized to the cat that organized the jam, a very nice and ambitious guy who loves to play and offered my behind-the-scenes help with *his* music (it does need help, let's face it) and he wrote back real nice and said he hoped I would reconsider my performance participation.

I'm learning. But I need my own rhythm section!

I know there is Ship At Sea(totally "fanning out" right now but the first time I saw that song my jaw hit the floor) but it would be cool I think for a whole ebow song.. . whatever.. later

Just a note to say that I enjoyed the gig in Nederland on Saturday - I dug the sounds and the open textures, with nice clear articulation on both the instruments and vocals. Also got a kick out of the little Five B/4 Funk quote in the middle of one of the songs. Some people near me looked at me a bit funny when I did the "woo" part, though (hehe). Nice chatting with you as well, Jamie. I can definitely hear some Kimock influence in your playing (probably no surprise there).

These guys are worth checking out if they come through your neighborhood, IMO.

So, I finally got a copy of this book about 2 weeks ago. Very interesting stuff. I'm going to work through it page by page.
I'm at the beginning of the 5th. Chapter now. I've been singing all the Exercises, and trying to do everything in a thorough and methodical way.

So far, the singing and time keeping aspects are very entertaining. And I feel that my critical listening is much more focused right now. So, that's a cool thing!

Anybody else around here work through this book? I'd be interested in your thoughts on the book, the exercises, and the results of these studies on your playing.
