Now why didn't we think of this. It's better than talking points on the palm of your hand.

The Noted Neck™ Temporary Tattoos are quite simply the coolest way to learn the guitar. Apply the Noted Neck temporary tattoo to the forearm of the hand that holds and plays the neck of the guitar! (Right or left. Doesn't matter unless it matters to you). With the tattoo applied, you can visually learn and memorize the notes of the guitar in standard tuning! Oh yeah, it looks pretty sweet too! Get some!

I recently switched from a Les Paul type guitar and started playing out my Grosh strat-style guitar with single coils. Depending on the bar (aka venue), it can get pretty noisy on the 1,3,5 settings, especially if I kick in a distortion pedal. Are there some simple, cheap fixes, or do I need to consider humbuckers longer term?

I finally got around to trying the parallel reverb setup the other day and it sounds great. Running the reverb like that somehow manages to make it sound more wet and lush and at the same time clearer and less obtrusive to the clean signal. Very cool.

I'll chime in with a thumbs up on that, too. Tried it at a gig for the first time a few weeks ago and it made a huge difference. The club where we've been the house band for years moved to this fantastic location, but unfortunately, the room they stuck the band is essentially a small concrete box. All of a sudden anything with reverb of delay sounded like it was underwater. Doing the above reverb thing made a huge difference in the definition.
Then Back To intro/Top Riff 4x's
then Repeat first and second runs
then solo your ass of in G major for 16bars but be tasteful
then back to intro/head 4x's
then (FOR AWHILE) solo mixing in the runs along with double stops and
                  improvised G major scales
then Back to INTRO/HEAD 4x's
then solo really backing off too many notes... BE VERY TASTEFUL.
band comes down in volume here
don't just think G major first mode..
start on or play out the other modes as well... he plays the third
     position (B minor/Phrygian) and SEcond Position (A minor/Dorian) a lot

   *************** USE ARRPEGIOS!!!!!!!!!!***************************
this then runs into....
Intro/TOp riff 4x's
then it turns into the really percussive muted like section...
then this section turns into this section below that is tabbed out

nice one, thanks for posting. love that sound.

I actually have an old acoustic lying around that I've considered re-deploying as a lap guitar / spousal annoyer - anyone ever done the same? although, it may be a bit bulky, perhaps a 3/4 guitar would be better suited?

Gear talk :: Favorite Power Amps? Preamps?

hi everyone,

i've been playing in a few bands lately that have quite the musical range. i'm in a thrash punk band that is mostly for a good, young time, a folk band in which i improvise with whatever instrument is in front of me, bass for a grunge/punk band, and more seriously, i play improvised guitar with whoever is around. it's for that last project that i am most concerned about tone. our sets are usually one long ambient improvisation where i'm playing out of at least two amps.

with so many bands i need to get rid of some of my amps and consolidate to a versatile rig. so i was thinking this - i'm gonna keep my '68 bassman for it's classic tonal possibilities (and cause steve said so) but i'm interested in setting up a rack unit. but i don't know anything about power amps. what power amps do any of you like that are in the $1000 or below range? in fact $500 or below would be great too. i've been writing to brad sarno about his classic tube preamp and he suggested looking into the carvin ts100 to pair with it if i get it. i don't need anything too loud, like jerry's mcintosh monster or something. but 100 watts would be good.

i was thinking if i had a versatile and good sounding power amp then i can get a couple different preamps in the rack and have the tonal range that i'm gonna need for the next couple years in these random bands. sarno said that the classic tube preamp is appreciated by bass players as well as jerry wannabes and tells me i can get "kimock-like" guitar tones with it. anyone have experience with this preamp? is that shit true? also, i was looking at that marshall 9001 maybe for a possible punk tone. plus it's cheap. thoughts on this or other preamps? in fact what's your favorite preamp?

i hope this isn't asking too much. maybe it could be fun. thanks for the attention.

peace
bryan
