Hmmm - the last post in the "introductions" forum was last year... will I just be talking to myself?

Ok - hi folks, I'm Huw Owens from Cheshire in England. Up to about one month ago I had never heard of Steve Kimock. However...

...I'm a music grad (a loooooooooong time ago) and find that these days the interweb alows me to do some recreational reading that would have taken months just to get hold of the books back when I was a student. So anyhow, one day I stumble into the techniques forum on TGP & before too long I start to come across the name Kimock being bandied about like some kind of talisman.

Eventually I find some of Steve's posts & it turns out that all the stuff I'm interested in (tuning, temperament, harmonic series etc, long list) is stuff that he's really knowledgable about - and I've picked up a boat load of new links to plenty of reading (I've had to begin to pick up a new vocabulary too Very Happy )

So yesterday I found this site & voila. I expect I'll be lurking/reading up for a while before I get into a lot of posting, but I thought it'd be nice to say "hello".

Oh yeah - almost forgot. I did actualy listen to some of Steve's playing too, I'm not just here to geek out on the maths. He had me from the 5th note of Stella Blue... Theory in practice. Wow.

Welcome. The forum is up and down in terms of activity, but part of the reason is that the conversation is sort of scattered over a few different sites. You can find find Steve not only here, but also at:

http://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php and also here:
http://kimock.com/kimockskorner/

You can also find a ton of Steve's live stuff at:

http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=kimock

Steve is out in California right now, probably juggling a bunch of travel and rehearsal stuff, but he'll be back soon enough. Meantime, feel free to peruse the joint, start a topic, share you own stuff, etc.

Thanks - I've found those first two links, but the third one is new to me.

Plenty to catch up with... Very Happy

Oh, there are even a few more, but the archive is a good start.

BTW, I promise I won't mention England's Cup performance here. It would be entirely inappropriate. Oh, wait, I just did

(though Huw is Welsh, yes? so maybe you're laughing, too)

Good spot - yes Huw is Welsh, as opposed to Hugh which is the English spelling.

But I'm English - of Welsh decent, but English.

Football? Not my game, so mention the World Cup all you like Very Happy

I only watched one game, for the benefit of my young sons (who weren't even that bothered) which turned out to be a rather boring draw...

...USA I think that was against. Wink

Like I said - not my game at all.

Ah, count yourself fortunate you never developed the sickness, then. Have been playing and following since the early 1970s, as kids even resorting to following the old english Div 1 by way of shortwave radio. Having been tormented for decades by many, many Englishmen about the US side, I'm taking every opportunity to throw any jab I can at anyone who might possibly feel even a little shame Smile For a US fan, it has been like being the lowest paid roadie for decades and then getting a chance to take over for the lead singer at the biggest show the band ever played. Sad, I know, but it's the little things that make life worth living for some of us.
